Reviewing chippies is so hard – because so much is about personal preference especially in how chips should be done. I’m a crispy on the outside fluffy on the middle kinda bloke – and for that reason the Downtown is not my favourite chippy in the area. Having stood in line and watched them cook – it doesn’t look like they double fry the chips! Chips aside, the food is always good and cooked fresh. It seems all fish is cooked to order and the batter is crispy and each cut gets a good covering – I’ve never had a dry bit of fish there. Service is always friendly – and you can shout your order from halfway down the steps outside and they always get it right. Overall, I’ll give it three stars – if they did really good chips it would be a four.

The best Fish and Chips in Tunbridge Wells? Probably. You also get to have a sneaky pint in the Compasses accross the road whilst you wait.
