I first visited this restaurant in September 2011 for my brother’s birthday, as part of a group of six. While it appears unassuming from the outside, and the affordable prices might give the impression it is merely average, the service and quality of food surpasses anywhere I have been in a long time – including a Michelin-starred London restaurant! It was on a weekend, and the place was full – but despite that, and the fact that two of our party have severe food allergies to take into account, our food was delivered in a timely fashion and every bite was delicious! The staff were friendly and attentive, and were happy to explain exactly what each dish contained, and are truly proud of their Italian roots – it’s almost as if the place has been uprooted from Naples and landed, luckily for us, in Kent; they make perfect strangers feel like old friends. For six people, with 2-3 courses each, and plenty of wine and other drinks, the bill still came in under £100. I have yet to go back there, simply because I live nowhere near – but next time I find myself wanting to dine out in Tunbridge Wells, Vesuvio will definitely be top of my list.

I loved Il Vesuvio – small and friendly with a great personal service from the family staff and absolutely delicious food with generous portions and excellent value! I love Italian restaurants and this is definitely my favourite. We were very impressed and will definitely be eating there again!

So pleased to have found this place! I’d noticed it several times passing by but hadn’t been keen on the outward appearance – however, after eating here the other night, we will definitely be returning, regularly! We were given a warm greeting and shown to our table (book to avoid disappointment – Friday evening and all the tables were full), the menu was full of so many delicious courses it was hard to choose.

We enjoyed 3 courses each, a half litre of white and quarter litre of red, a limoncello all for £50 – the food was fresh, delicious, cooked to order and served by the lovely Italian family who own the restaurant. An on-the-house melon liquor and friendly chat with the owners made us feel as if we have been missing out – we will definitely be going back! Great to see an Independent family-run restaurant doing well so close to the usual Italian chains found in every town.

This is a fabulous restaurant, always busy with delicious, authentic food, and the family who run it really make it. They are so friendly, and it reminds me of many summer’s spent in Italy when I was younger as at the end of the evening they will bring you a shot of Limoncello and sit down with you at the table and have a good chat. Fab place

The Italian family make this restaurant my favorite place to eat out. Living in London, I regularly travel down to Tunbridge Wells and book a hotel, just to eat here on a saturday night. The food is traditional, delicious, comes in large portions and ridiculously cheap compared to something of a similar standard in London. The atmosphere is what makes this place, the Biscardi’s are welcoming and happy to accomodate any request. WE love this restaurant and will return forever. PS. The Seafood Risotto is a delight and the specials menu offers an extra taste of italy everytime we visit. Cant wait to go back… x

Have now been a few times (mainly in the evening but once at lunchtime). Have never had a bad evening. Lovely family who get pleasure from you having a good time. Recommend the liver – delish. Good but short wine list – Gavi was great value. If you want a friendly intimate time give it a try. If you like authentic Italian – don’t miss this. Will be going agian soon. PS Book if you want to go at the weekend.

Another great night at il Vesuvio.

As always the service was warm and friendly, you really do get to see the whole family and they also tell you of other’s whereabouts which is quite cute.

The food is amazing.. and the protions are always really generous, and at a really fair price.

We had some excellent wine, suggested by Franco the father, and we were very happy with it.

I would definately reccomend this place to anyone, I am planning to organise a birthday party with all my family there.

Love this place – it’s a true independent. The welcome and service is fantastic – where else do you get the whole family lining up and giving you a European kiss goodbye! I’ll admit that there’s not much here that I couldn’t cook myself, but this isn’t the point of Il Vesuvio – it’s about freshly cooked, Italian food, with a real family welcome – from theirs to yours. All ages can come here and eat something that they like and feel relaxed and welcomed. This place is what eating out is all about.

I love this restaurant. It has a friendly, family atmosphere and it feels just like Italy (check out the display of Neapolitan mandolins). The food is excellent – the best I have eaten outside Italy and on a par with the best I have eaten over there . It’s authentic without slavishly following the same old formula. There are lots of imaginative takes on traditional recipes: try Maria’s version of tiramisu. The fried seafood platter is my particular favourite, but it’s all fantastic. The service is friendly and personal, the wine excellent and the portions extremely generous. A real treat!

We very much enjoyed our evening at this delightful family restuarant, the atmosphere, food and service was of a very good quality and standard.
We were made to feel very welcome and will bring our family there in the near future.
I would definitely recommend this family restaurant, a good choice for a romantic dinner for two or family group.

I ate here for the second time recently and although the food was, as it always is, excellent, the service was a bit slow.

We have eaten at vesuvios on 4 or 5 occasions now. It is not a High Street Chain but is is a very friendly family run Italian restaurant with a great welcome and atmpsphere and very good ‘family’ (as against catering pack) food, all at a reasponable price and giving an excellent evenings meal out.

One has to go a very long way to get a better combination of welcome, atmosphere, food and value. Keep it up Vesuvio!

A fantastic Italian restaurant, certainly the best in Twell! Friendly service, happy and homely atmosphere and absolutely delicious authentic home cooked style food. I have now eaten here many times and always look forward to my next visit.

I treated my sisters and their husbands to a meal here on September 12th. Having eaten at Il Vesuvio several times in the last year I knew we were in for a treat. As usual the food was absolutely superb and the service excellent together with a good wine list. I particularly recommend the Lachrimi Christi (Thank-you maitre d’ Angelo). Although the charismatic proprietors Franco and Maria were away on a well earned holiday in Italy their daughter Barbara and son Alessandro made us feel most welcome. An excellent family-run restaurant which is a pleasure to visit. In the words of Arnold Schwarzenegger “I’ll be Back”.

What an outstanding meal we had tonight (Friday). The restaurant has a lovely atmosphere, a very friendly welcome from the staff, all one happy family. The food was sooo good, the best Italian food we’ve had out in a long time , I could go as far to say ever! There was a slight wait for the main meal however the food was well well well worth the wait and we received 3 apologies from 3 different people. The service was exceptional and personal. It was our pay day treat and we will definitely be returning again for another pay day treat!!

This Italian, family-run restaurant is a real find. We have eaten here twice and have been enormously impressed on both occasions. The food is delicious and authentic, the service is outstanding and the atmosphere is relaxing and almost makes you feel as if you are on holiday in Italy. We have two children who were well entertained and found lots of delicious things to choose from on the menu. The restaurant is also perfect for couples and celebrations. It is lovely to receive such a warm welcome and to eat delicious, cooked-from-scratch food. I would recommend this excellent restaurant to anyone.

We are a family of four and we went to Vesuvio for Sunday lunch and there was a great atmosphere. We really liked the Italian music in the background and the waiters were attentive and friendly.

We asked for some recommendations and there was a really big choice. We finally went with some veggie dishes like parmigiana (delicious and a lot of it), a pizza with a very crispy base and a lot of toppings which was almost too big for one person and our children had a lasagna which went down very well and a meat ball dish in the best tomato sauce I’ve ever tried. (I ended up mopping it up with some garlic bread – yumm!)

We had a bottle of Italian wine with it which was a decent quality and reasonably priced although I can’t remember the name and the boys had real frozen lemons filled with a wonderfully tart sorbet which they polished off in no time!

I would definitely recommend this restaurant for families and it also looked like it would be a good choice for a romantic dinner for two or for a group looking for lots of atmosphere.

I had been looking forward to eating here for a few weeks. The staff were friendly when I had spoken to them when passing as I do every day. On my birthday, my wife and I ate there. The food was delicious, the service maybe a bit too good for an authentic Italian experience as the staff were attentive. We both went for a veal main dish and with starters and gateau to finish, aperitifs, a bottle of Nero d’Avola and a fine 50% abv grappa with coffee, I was not surprised at the £79 bill but, idly checking the hand-written note, I saw they had overcharged me by £2. I called the waiter over and asked him to check it. It took him about 2 seconds to see that, yes, they had indeed overcharged me. I felt insulted by that. If they respect their customers, they will not make a mistake. Anyway, no restaurant needs to issue a hand-written bill any longer but for those who do, it is easier to overcharge. For the sake of two pounds, they lost my goodwill and custom.
