Very dissapointing experience, went for Sunday lunch yesterday with high hopes. My rabbit starter was raw, something I did not notice until halfway through as it was encased in pastry – which was worrying to say the least. This was then replaced with scallops that had been baked in their shell and sealed with pastry. Unfortunately, these were very small and bland. My main of beef was passable but my partner was not impressed with her pork. We shared a plate of 3 cheeses which were of good quality, but for £10 you would hope so. Service was great as was the wine but for a restaurant striving to operate at the same level as Thackeray’s they fall woefully short. The previous week we had eaten at a michelin star establishment in Hampshire which was far superior and cheaper too. I’m afraid we shan’t be returning.

Went for Sunday lunch on Mother’s Day.
The food was excellent: really first class. We had our 11 month old with us, so were a bit nervous that we may not be welcome, but the reverse was true. The staff were accommodating, helpful and engaging. Really great.

Very dissapointing first visit.
Friday evening 8:30pm and only 6 people in the restaurant all evening yet the service was not good.
Waiter kept dropping things, did not remember who had ordered what and when topping up the wine he was oblivious to the fact he had poured it into the water glass!
Food was good but prices comparable to Thackerays which overall is a much much better experience.
The idea is good, decor is nice but no ambience upstairs lighting is far too bright – would probably not go back for dinner based on experience – lunch may be better!

Really fabulous restaurant. Contemporary decor, excellent service and fantastic food. The Wednesday Steak night offered great value for money (2 courses £18.95) and the steaks were sublime – perfectly cooked and extremely tender. A La Carte menu quite expensive but definitely worth it for a treat, and there are some good offers on their web site – would definitely recommend.

Brilliant addition to the area, Montrose is our new family favourite for special occasions, we each try something different when we come and haven’t been disappointed yet. Congratulations to Richard Hards and his team. Keep up the great work and to everyone else, book to avoid disappointment!
