We’ve never been to Firebelly’s, always favouring Spice Club opposite but coming back tired and hungry from a long Eurostar ride on a Sunday evening, and having spent most of our money, we by chance ended up in Firebelly’s as the menu in the window looked much better value than Spice Club and full of variety. The restaurant is charming, warm colours on the walls, little candles on the tables and you can see the fire-burning oven and lots of fresh looking basil and veg hung around the kitchen, so there’s a very nice atmosphere. My boyfriend and I were the only people there, probably because it was so late and on a Sunday, but we were still able to have a private chat and not once did they seem like they were hurrying for us to leave, even when our friend turned up and sat with us for a drink and did not order food.

We had shared two starters, I had half a bottle of house white (which was very drinkable), a Peroni for him and two pizzas for about £30 – which in my opinion is brilliant value especially for Tunbridge Wells. The starters were a chorizo, meatball and new potato dish which was very nice and similar to the kind of tapas you can find down the hill at Soprano’s; and pepperdews stuffed with cream cheese, which were mouth watering.

Our pizzas were loaded with tasty toppings – unlike a certain well known pizza chain in town (in fact, most of the chain Italians) where you get 5 olives to a pizza. We had one with several kinds of cheeses, fresh spinach, pancetta, olives and garlic and one with pepperoni, some other kind of tasty Italian ham, fresh tomatoes and red onions. They were both absolutely lovely and very juicy with cripsy bases.

Overall, I would highly recommend Firebellys. I can’t wait to go back and try more of the huge menu, from their very authentic Italian choices to the slightly Mexican sounding pizzas with Monterry Jack cheese, beef and jalapenos etc. There is also a Spanish influence in the appetizers menu.

Quite possibly the best pizzas in Tunbridge Wells. How to describe? Well, if you like Pizza Hut food, you probably won’t like Fire Belly’s. But if you love authentic pizza… then this place will quickly become your best friend.

The restaurant itself can be pretty quiet – which can of course be both a good and bad thing. Just a couple of you and the atmosphere may be a bit too dead… but four or more of you and who cares? Create your own vibe and feast on the excellent pizza!

But shhh, don’t tell everyone about this place coz on a packed Friday or Saturday evening in T Wells this may just be the only place you can get in. Make it too popular and that’ll change…

But on the other hand, you could then always settle for a takeaway. Firebelly’s deliver – although sometimes the wait can be long. Remember, these guys cook fresh to order… and that takes time.

I also recommend the stuffed pepperdews as a started. Delicious!

A good quiet place with very good italian pizzas. Enjoyed the Englishman with an excellent bottle of red at dinner time.
