We LOVE the Himalayan Gurkha. We were introduced to its delights by friends in Crowborough several years ago and if we ever get the opportunity to dine out (awkward these days with a young child!) then we’ll choose to go here. Yes the restaurant can lack atmosphere when it’s quiet but I prefer quality service and delicious food over ambiance anyway! We’ve had a family party, dinner with friends, and dinner for just the 2 of us at this restaurant and the food has always been top class, tasty and full of flavour. Just writing this is making my mouth water……Must find a babysitter soon!

The anxiety was high: taking the boyfriend of discerning taste and son to a new restaurant recommended by someone I didn’t know. I fell into the restaurant – mind the step! And there were very few customers initially … worrying. We were taken to our table and from then on we had first class service.
The menu was different to the usual Indian fare. I have no idea what we chose but the curry was creamy with delicious flavourings, the chicken dish was sublime with the mix of herbs and spices, all complimented by the usual veggie and rice side dishes.
Great food, excellent service, reasonable price – perfect recommendation

Well after seeing all the great reviews I decided to check it out for myself. I really wanted to like this place. The staff were welcoming and we were ushered upstairs which lacked any of the atmosphere of the downstairs space and felt like we were in someones front room.

After ordering some cobras we started with some popadums which were nice.

For the starter I had the Meat Momo dumplings which were slightly dry but ok, another starter ordered was the “KUKHURA CHHOILA” which was ok but a little bland.

I then followed with the Speciality “PIRO HIMALAYAN KUKHURA” marinated chicken and cabage dish which was very bland and if I am honest tasteless.

The other dishes ordered by a freind was the speciality lamb “BHEDA GURKHA MASALA” which again had hardly any taste at all and my wife had the “KUKHURA SHASLICK” which was actually very nice so it was not all bad.

Side dishes were good but overall I was not overly impressed with this restaurant which was a shame as it has been recommended on many occasions.

Give it a go though as it may have been a bad day or the main chef may have been off but I think I will be sticking to the many other great Indian restaurants located in TW such as Mooli and Junahki.

I adore this place! Last year we went with a large group for my boyfriend’s birthday and then again with a large group for New Year’s Eve. The service is always impeccable, everything arrives together and nicely paced, the staff are so friendly and the food is divine. There really is something for everyone on the menu. Definitely recommend it!

We went to this restaurant for dinner on my father’s birthay and we really had a great time. The service was brilliant and the food was lovely as always. Best curry house in town. Highly recommended.
