My husband and I went to this restaurant for the first time yesterday. We were happily surprised about the outstanding service, presentation, food quality and atmosphere. We loved it and we will be back many times.

This restaurant is absolutely OUTSTANDING. I have been there many a time for many a year, and not once has it disappointed me in the slightest; the food is always delicious to say the least, and it is one of the few places one can go to in Tunbridge Wells and have an aspect of class added to the meal.
Keith's review? What an absolute load of rubbish. The restaurant is a favourite for special occasions of all sorts, and they want to try and make it as special as possible for everyone who goes there, so of course there is bound to be a few plays of 'Happy Birthday', and to be honest, from the sheer inaccuracy of your review, it seems like you wouldn't know good Italian food if you drowned in it. If you don't likle it, stay away, because the restaurant has many a regular customer and doesn't need the amateur 'criticism' of someone like you.

Franco's is the only TW restaurant who's phone number is stored on my mobile phone. I must have eaten there over a dozen times, and never been disappointed. I can particularly recommend the fish specials - always good and inventive.

On my most recent visit, about a month ago on a Saturday night, they even made us Zabagliones - which they don't normally do at weekends due to the time it takes. Perhaps they know me well and made a special case, but then from our first visit there we've been made to feel special.

Criticisms? One minor one, the standard wine list isn't very inspiring. I usually go for a wine from "Senor Franco's Cellar". It's upwards of £40 a bottle from this special wine list, but for me it's worth it.

I hope to continue to enjoy going to Francos every month or so for a long time.

We went to Signor Franco on a Saturday with our 9 years old son and had lunch in their main room, which is very bright due to the beautiful and big arch windows. We were only expecting the standard Italian food but much to our surprise, the food was outstanding. They have a great variety of dishes and both our starters and main courses were really tasty, excellent quality and very well presented. The service was also very good, with waiters very attentive and professional. Signor Franco is definitely one of the best Italian restaurants that we have ever eaten and we will definitely come back soon.

Keith's review is very unfair. The food is excellent, and only someone with a major chip on their shoulder would want to compare it with service station fodder. Try the Bianchi e Rossi next time! And go for some zucchini on the side, fantastic. The wine list is also a major cut above.
I do agree the place is overdue a refit, and is looking a bit tired. The service is very old-school, but that's a good thing! I'd rather be served by someone who's a career waiter, who's been plying his trade with dedication for decades, than by some spotty Polish teenager who'd rather be doing anything else (anyone for Zizzi?).

Can't totally disagree with Keith's comments (yes, the Birthday cake routine is bl**dy irritating!)but we've eaten there three times as a family and basically you have to accept this is a stereotypical old-school Italian which will never change!
(For a full-on carnivore's blow-out you need to try the veal chop - which was one of the best pieces of grilled meat I've ever had.) Not somewhere to plan as a 'must eat' destination but give it a go if you're close and need re-fuelling.

One of the worst restaurants I have ever been to. A throwback to the 1970s (or even 1960s), with oily over-familiar but inattentive waiters, we arrived at 8.00 pm and were served our main course at 10.00 pm. Overloud music and the constant refrain of "Happy Birthday" made the ambiance more akin to a HiDiHi holiday camp cafeteria. The food would have been a disgrace to a 1970s' motorway service station, where I assume the chef got his training.A place for people with more money than sense.
