For me, this is a restaurant with a seriously split personality. Breakfasts and light lunches are among the best in town, but I've been twice in the evenings and it has let me down with poor service and poor food.

For breakfast it's my restaurant of choice. Always. Sitting outside in the summer with a pot of tea and Eggs Benedict Royale whilst watching the world go by is what Tunbridge Wells is all about. My partner and I must have done this on 20 or more occasions - and only once has the food been a let down (undercooked poached eggs a couple of months back) - but I can forgive a one-off. The only criticism of breakfast is that the "full" English isn't that full - one sausage, one rasher, etc. I prefer a few more item on my plate! But the Eggs Benedict Royale (try it, you must!) is brilliant.

As I said, we've never had a good evening meal there - but you might have better luck that we have. But definitely go for breakfast - did I mention the Eggs Benedict Royale?

A fantastic atmosphere, and beautiful surroundings on the pantiles. The food is simply outstanding: delicious and simple. Really friendly staff, and excellent service. An interesting and very good selection of local English wines.
